GPA AWARDS

An Invitation to Make Nominations for Awards

• Description of Award Categories & Award Recipients

AN INVITATION ....

This is an invitation for you to submit nominations for the Awards that will be presented at the next GPA Convention. Nominations for any award category may be submitted at any time by anyone associated with the gas processing industry. However, to assure consideration for next year’s presentation, nominations should be received no later than November 14, 2008.

The GPA Awards program is one of the most visible means by which the Association meets an obligation "to more fully develop the gas producing and processing industry." These awards are also tangible, public evidence of appreciation by the industry, the Association, and industry colleagues to those individuals who have contributed significantly to the advancement and development of the light hydrocarbons industry.

The award categories are described below. Winners will be selected prior to the Convention by the GPA Awards Committee, composed of the GPA Executive Committee, Chairs of the Technical, Legislative and Regulatory Affairs, and EHS Committees, the GPSA President, and up to three general appointees made by the current GPA President. The structure of the Awards Committee provides an impartial and objective selection process by industry veterans whose experience and judgment assures recognition of some, if not all, individual achievement and contributions.

All nominations received will be submitted for review by the Awards Committee. As noted above, anyone may submit a nomination at any time for any award category. However, the nomination must be submitted in writing, and should contain the nominee’s biographical information and a detailed summary of the achievements and/or industry contributions appropriate for the particular award category. Nominations should be sent to:

 Awards Committee
Gas Processors Association
6526 E. 60th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145
Fax 918-493-3875; email to: jdreyer@gasprocessors.com

All nominations are retained in the permanent files of the Awards Committee and are considered each year until selection or elimination for other reasons.

AWARD DESCRIPTIONS

THE HANLON AWARD is the most prestigious recognition and highest honor of the gas processing industry, and is one of the ranking awards of the petroleum industry.

It was initiated in 1937 by the late E. I. Hanlon, who was a pioneer in the early gas processing industry of West Virginia. Later, Mr. Hanlon founded the Hanlon Companies in the Mid-Continent oil fields and became Chairman of the National Bank of Tulsa. The Award has been continued in Mr. Hanlon’s name since his death in 1984.

The Hanlon Award is conferred annually on an individual whose career includes prominent achievement and outstanding contributions to the gas processing industry. Such contributions may include, but is not limited to, technical services, business accomplishment, education, research, or other outstanding leadership that has materially advanced the welfare of the gas processing industry. Prior recipients have included engineers, research scientists, business leaders, educators, journalists, and virtually every other discipline associated with the industry.

The Award, consisting of a modest wall plaque and a gift of the recipient’s choice, is not necessarily an annual event, but is conferred as deemed appropriate by the GPA Awards Committee. It is given out at the Opening General Session of GPA’s Annual Convention.

THE DONALD L. KATZ AWARD is named in honor of the highly esteemed Professor Emeritus of the University of Michigan.

It was initiated in 1985 to recognize outstanding accomplishments in gas processing research and technology, and for excellence in engineering education. Dr. Katz has been closely associated with GPA and the natural gas and gas industry during all of his long and distinguished career. He and his students developed much of the classic data and many of the correlations that are essential to understanding the science and engineering of light hydrocarbon production and processing. He was the 1950 recipient of the GPA Hanlon Award, the first of some 21 major scientific honors and awards received during his career.

The Award, symbolized by a wall plaque bearing an engraved likeness of Dr. Katz, is not an annual event, but is conferred as deemed appropriate by GPA research leaders and the Awards Committee. It is given out at the Opening General Session of GPA’s Annual Convention.

THE GPA CITATION FOR SERVICE is intended to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the gas processing industry - usually through the GPA organization or its committees.

Initiated in 1962, it is a mechanism through which leadership and dedicated service to the Association and the industry can be recognized, even though such service may have been confined to the team effort of committee work, rather than outstanding individual achievement.

The Award consists of an engraved, illuminated scroll which summarizes the individual’s contributions to the industry. It is conferred annually to one or more individuals at GPA’s Annual Convention during the GPA Membership Meeting and President’s Luncheon.
